We have been working with the Art Copyright Coalition for more than a decade, helping art publishers and artists to protect their art and creativity.
Inspiration comes from everywhere and as designers and marketers we are continually looking at the work of our peers and on blogs and review sites so that we can stay up-to-date and on the cutting edge of design. We create a lot of logos every year and yes, we look at other logos for inspiration and our clients send us logos they like as a starting ground for design. But we NEVER copy another designers work. Ever.
When I ask people about copyright infringement, the first thing they think of is movies and music. That’s a given. But copying the work of graphic designer is infringement too even if you ‘change’ it a little. Always be original. It takes more time and if you are working with a designer, it will cost more money. But it is your brand and you are worth it. Trust us.
Take a look at this article on the Creative Blog – Tokyo 2020 Olympics Logo binned after plagiarism row. It’s a good read. What do you think? Is it copyright infringement?
